Races and Creatures (Playable)

Post by Cassiel » Tue Sep 19, 2017 4:48 pm

WORK IN PROGRESS!

Race:
Human
Playable:
Yes
Average Lifespan: 80 years
Reproduction:
Normal - see also: link
Powers/Abilities:
Some are born with magical abilities. All have the ability to learn limited magic as mages.
Additional Information:
By far the most common race in the world. They are capable of using magic, though most see magic as something shameful, to be mocked, or just not to be trusted - along with those who use it. Most humans are ignorant of the creatures that share the world with them, though some know through various means.

Humans can be put into thrall with vampire blood. The vampire blood does become an addiction for them, bonding them with the vampire they feed from.

Fey

Post by Cassiel » Tue Sep 19, 2017 4:49 pm

Race: Fey
Playable: Yes
Average Lifespan: Immortal
Reproduction: Normal - see also: link
Powers/Abilities: Inborn magic that all have to some degree, beguilement. Some are born with special talents - clairvoyance, so on.
Additional Information:

They are governed by the court and its politics, those that head the court have final say. Any that go against the court end up being exiled - stripped of the majority of their powers and cast out; they are completely written out of existence. Any that are found to have contact with them are shunned as well.

When female fey marry into another house, they end up essentially leaving their family behind and marrying into their husband's houses.

Even though the Fey are generally neutral in the politics of Zion, they still follow treaties of the old. They stick to old ways at times, even if the newer fey are slowly starting to want to break free of it.

Their blood is sought after due to it being incredibly intoxicating for the vampires. However, because of the deal with the vampires, they are mostly safe.

[ NOTE: You cannot kill another fey for their blood unless the player who has the Fey agrees to it, or one of the storytellers knows/approves ]

* Interesting note: The most recent born child of the Lord of the court is the one who has claim to the throne. Not the first born and so on.

*Interesting note #2: Children that are born to those on the court may be cared for by a team of nannies. The children live in a house that is considered a permanent daycare. Parents are involved to some degree (think about politics, raising their children to be fit for the court), though the nannies are the ones that do the actual parenting.

Werewolf & Garou

Post by Cassiel » Tue Sep 19, 2017 4:51 pm

Race: Were, Werewolf, Garou
Playable:
Yes
Average Lifespan:
200 - 250 years
Reproduction:
Normal (rarely) & Infection (saliva introduced to blood) - see also: link
Powers/Abilities:
Shapechange (specific forms only), increased speed, increased strength, increased lifespan, regeneration. Werewolves and garou cannot use magic - something in their blood hampers their ability to use it. Weakened by silver. Can be killed by anything that kills a human, IF sudden enough to overcome the increased healing.
Additional Information:
Werewolves are able to change forms (full canid, full human, & humanoid-canid - with humanoid-canid being the hardest to shift to and maintain) which are always canid of some kind, with the wolves tending to be the most powerful & respected and most often in charge. The infected werewolves generally can only change with the full moon, and without much control over it. The most powerful infected werewolves can, like the garou, change at will, though they tend toward more violence and are more likely to lose control during the full moon phase. A separate group of were call themselves garou, those who are from old families and born into their condition. The garou tend to see themselves as elite, better than the infected were. And the Werewolves can be created by infection from a bite, though it's not unusual for victims to not survive the bite, or the initial process of transformation. The garou and werewolves both are generally lead by one Packmaster, who has authority over them all. Traditionally that role has fallen to the Durantes, but recently has been taken forcefully during the Purge by the werewolf Atticus. Negotiations are in progress between Matthias Durante and Joseph Atticus to determine the future of the were in Zion.

Major garou families that survived the Purge in some fashion: Durante, Voss (now all deceased), Trevane, Whittaker, Madoc, Lu, Gzimalowski

NOTE: Garou now require approval due to storyline reasons. Infected werewolves are still open to creation & play without approval needed.

Vampire

Post by Cassiel » Tue Sep 19, 2017 4:53 pm

Race: Vampire
Playable:
Yes
Average Lifespan:
Immortal
Reproduction:
Infection (ingested blood) see also: link
Powers/Abilities:
limited mind-control/mesmerism, biokinesis, regeneration, the ability to make human (and possibly other races?) thralls through a combination of mesmerism and feeding of blood to the to-be-thrall, limited telekinesis, limited power bestowal. Sunlight weakens (but does not kill) vampires. Garlic has no effect, despite myths that claim otherwise. Fire can severely damage and sometimes kill a vampire (the younger they are, the easier this is). Decapitation and burning of the body to ash is the only sure way to destroy a vampire.
Additional Information:
Vampires feed off blood (primarily human, but other sources can work) to survive. They can eat and drink normally, as humans can, but they don't require it to survive. A vampire's power grows with age. Some of the oldest and most powerful even develop abilities that younger, less powerful vampires don't have at all such as limited mind-control/mesmerism and biokinesis (including the ability to heal). Vampires are created by draining a victim nearly to the point of death, and then feeding them back the vampire's blood, but not all survive this process. NOTE: Vampires are not truly dead. They never died to become what they are. They're eternally trapped between life and death, neither fully alive nor fully dead. ALSO NOTE: Vampires are of two 'strains.' There are those who require, just as in some old tales, a coffin or box to sleep in with dirt in it. Others don't require this. No one knows the reasons for this difference.

It is easy for vampires to get addicted to Fey and Demon blood, thus the blanket decree to stay away from them; not all listen, of course. When a vampire drinks Fey blood, it is akin to smoking marijuana - a good high. When a vampire drinks Demon blood, it is akin to a LSD trip - a serious high.

Demon

Post by Cassiel » Tue Sep 19, 2017 5:12 pm

Race: Demon
Playable:
Yes (Hell-born demons require approval)
Average Lifespan:
350-400 years for Earth-born demons & potentially far more for Hell-born demons
Reproduction:
Normal - see also: link
Powers/Abilities:
some innate magic, the ability to force people to admit to their deepest desires and sometimes even act on them, beguiling/mind control
Additional Information:
Unlike lore would have normal humans generally believe, demons are not twisted souls of former humans, but a separate and distinct creature. They do originally come from Hell, but many currently residing in Zion have never seen Hell personally. Demons in general prefer to remain neutral, to the point that they will only rarely ally even with other demons. They tend to remain primarily solitary and are untrusting of others. Demons will, however, form temporary alliances or willingly act as mediators for other races - as long as they feel there's something in it for them.

Demon blood is incredibly addictive for vampires. [ NOTE: You cannot kill a demon for their blood unless the player who has the Demon agrees to it, or one of the storytellers knows/approves ]

Shapeshifter

Post by Cassiel » Tue Sep 19, 2017 5:13 pm

Race: Shapeshifter, Shifter
Playable:
Yes
Average Lifespan:
200 years
Reproduction:
Normal - see also: link
Powers/Abilities:
Shapechange, increased speed, increased strength, increased lifespan, regeneration. (All lesser than garou/werewolves, aside from the advantages of being able to shift into multiple forms.) Unlike their werewolf/garou cousins, silver has no effect whatsoever on shapeshifters.
Additional Information:
Shapeshifters are, as the name implies, able to change their shape and appearance within certain parameters. They are limited to what they can change into to living things, and to things within a certain size range. For example, the average sized shifter can change into creatures from around the size of a large raven or crow to the size of a large horse or cow, but could not change into a mouse or an elephant. They are also often looked down on by the rest of the supernatural community - think the white trash of the supernatural world - and are particularly reviled by werewolves and garou, who rule over them within their particular society.

Selkie

Post by Cassiel » Tue Sep 19, 2017 5:14 pm

Race: Selkie
Playable: Yes: Approval required
Average Lifespan: 200 years
Reproduction: Normal - see also: link
Powers/Abilities: Shapechange (specifically into marine/water mammals with seals of some kind being overwhelmingly the most common), increased speed, increased strength, increased lifespan, regeneration. (All lesser than garou/werewolves.) Unlike their werewolf/garou cousins, silver has no effect whatsoever on selkie.
Additional Information:
Selkies are able to change their shape and appearance to that of a specific marine mammal. They cannot change without their skin - which manifests during childhood and determines the form they can change into. They are fiercely protective of this skin, and many have an enchanted chest or some other form of storage to keep it in when not being used. They are largely unknown, especially away from coastal areas, and rarely live away from those areas. Though, they can live anywhere they have access to a body of water, selkies thrive best in salt water. Selkies will die without regular immersion in water, in at least one of their forms.

Siren

Post by Cassiel » Tue Sep 19, 2017 5:15 pm

Race: Siren
Playable: Yes: Approval required
Average Lifespan: 1000 years
Reproduction: Normal - see also: link
Powers/Abilities: Minor inborn magic, beguilement, the ability to change or eliminate memories at will, the ability to engender or strengthen emotions in others. Most especially the ability to cause nearly irresistible lust.
Additional Information:
Sirens must feed off the emotions of others to survive, in addition to eating and drinking as any other living thing must do.

Siren powers work on humans, vampires are susceptible (especially with exposure to the blood), 'shifters/garou/were/selkie are somewhat resistant but not totally immune, fey are either completely immune or incredibly susceptible. It is primarily because of this that sirens are outcasts from fey society and culture.

(Sirens are a work in progress right now. Please talk to Cass, Ano, or PeM before playing one.)

Dragon

Post by Cassiel » Tue Sep 19, 2017 5:16 pm

Race: Dragon
Playable: Yes: Approval required
Average Lifespan: Immortal
Reproduction: None. (Dragons are born to fey seemingly at random, though extremely rarely, but they themselves cannot sire or bear children.)- see also: link
Powers/Abilities: The ability to switch between dragon form and that of a normal fey. They naturally possess elemental magic. They may also possess any of a range of magic and abilities normal to fey. As a dragon, they can camouflage themselves and can fly.
Additional Information:
Each dragon has only one fey shape they can change into (they decide the look when young, and once they change into it the first time that is how they look in fey form, and it must always be their birth gender). Dragons spend most of their time disguised as fey through a magic that actually changes their physical shape. Extra mass from their dragon form is shifted into something like a personal pocket dimension. They can use the same mass-shifting magic to be in dragon form, but smaller. Dragon form doesn't change, it is set for life; human form doesn't change, it is also set for life. Contrary to myth they do NOT breathe fire, though this myth may have gotten its start because they must resume their natural dragon form regularly, or they will burn up.

Dragons tend to be very curious creatures, and they enjoy watching (and occasionally meddling in) the affairs of humans and non-humans both. In general, dragons are thought to be only myth (even more so than nephilim), and most don't believe they really exist. The exception to this is some fey, who are all-too-aware the dragons are real. Despite being born of fey, the fey do not consider them kin in any way, generally. To bear a dragon is a shameful thing for fey; it is their curse.

(Dragons are a work in progress right now. Please talk to Cass, Ano, or PeM before playing one.)

Immortal

Post by Cassiel » Tue Sep 19, 2017 5:18 pm

Race: Immortals
Playable: Yes
Average Lifespan: Immortal
Reproduction: None. (Immortals are born to normal humans seemingly at random, though extremely rarely, but they themselves cannot sire or bear children.) - see also: link
Powers/Abilities: Immune to illness and disease. Never age. Can only be killed permanently by decapitation. Can sense other immortals nearby, and it is thought that some can even sense humans who are latent immortals. Immortals can use magic the same as any other human, although none are ever born sorcerers for reasons unknown.
Additional Information:
Immortals are a group of beings that are immune to disease and stop aging after becoming immortal. They can live forever, and can only die if they are beheaded. They appear in all ways mortal and human until their first death, which they come back to life from fully healed and immortal. (Yes, immortals as in Highlander. See more here.)
